Pregnancy Care Centers Open in North, East Tulsa to Improve Access to Pre-Natal Care
Tulsa, OK – According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), low birth weight, premature births, neonatal mortality, infant mortality, and maternal mortality are linked to insufficient prenatal care. In fact, babies of mothers who do not receive pre-natal care are three times more likely to have a low birth weight and five times more likely to die than those born to mothers who do get care.
To improve the health of expectant mothers and their babies in our community, Hillcrest HealthCare System has opened two Pregnancy Care Centers designed specifically for expectant mothers. The Hillcrest Pregnancy Care Centers (HPCC) will provide access to high-quality pre-natal care in North and East Tulsa.
Located at 1540 North Lewis and 11515 East 31st Street, the HPCCs are staffed with nurse practitioners and staff members who are fluent in both English and Spanish. In most cases, patients will see a nurse practitioner for personalized pre-natal care through their 34th week of pregnancy. Care will then be transferred to Utica Park Clinic’s OBGYN Office, located in the Helmerich Women’s Health Center on the Hillcrest Medical Center campus, where the mother will see a board-certified obstetrician physician for her final pre-natal appointments and the delivery.
In addition to pre-natal care, HPCC patients will also receive free childbirth and parenting classes through the Helmerich Women’s Health Center at Hillcrest, membership in the Labor of Love program and assistance in registering for select support programs, such as WIC and SoonerCare. The HPCCs also offer free pregnancy tests without an appointment.
“By offering the Hillcrest Pregnancy Care Centers in two medically underserved areas of Tulsa, we hope to improve access to pre-natal care and compliance among patients in keeping scheduled appointments,” said Natalie Smith, Service Line Administrator at the Peggy V. Helmerich Women’s Health Center at Hillcrest. “The pregnancy care centers will ensure mom and baby are happy and healthy as they begin their lives together.”
To make an appointment at the North HPCC location, please call 918.591.2500 or to make an appointment at the East location, please call 918.392.3944. To learn more about the Hillcrest Pregnancy Care Centers, please visit www.HillcrestPCC.com.
